Daniel Hayles

Daniel Hayles is a piano and keyboard player, performing regularly in a variety of styles and settings.  He also writes and arranges music for local and international artists, band and shows.

Daniel was classically trained (Performers' Certificate, Trinity College London) in his home town New Plymouth. He has a background in jazz, having completed a post-graduate diploma in jazz piano at the New Zealand School Of Music, and loves to play in a range of styles. Daniel spent some time playing piano in cruise ships around New York, the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, and has found his place as a busy working musician amongst the wealth of talent and culture of Wellington.

Currently Daniel is in his second year as an Artist Teacher at the New Zealand School of Music (NZSM) in Wellington, tutoring classes in Jazz Combo, Repertoire Combo, Large Vocal Ensemble (Jazz Choir) and Large Jazz Ensemble (Big Band). He is also an arranger for Rodger Fox's New Zealand Jazz Orchestra, Orchestra Wellington, and a number of New Zealand and international clients.

His regular live engagements range from stomping New Orleans rhythm and blues with Gold Nugget Pawn Shop, raging party times with the unstoppable Richter City Rebels, ripping organ hits with JB3, the occasional piano chair with Orchestra Wellington, to international touring with the likes of Lord Echo, Louis Baker and Hollie Smith.

In his spare time he enjoys cooking, riding his bike, running and drinking coffee.
